MILLOM in deepest Cumbria is never the easiest
place to go especially with a depleted squad.
This trip was horrendous from the start of
the game to Isberg eventual getting home.
Their return trip was delayed as the main
road out of Millom being closed due to an accident.
It just added to the misery the side had to
endure against a side looking odds on for promotion.
However coach Chris Kay was still taking positives
from the game, despite the 30-0 defeat.
"I think the final score is a reflection
on how the game went but I'm not knocking the way my lads played
today" said Kay.
"They gave it their all and I have nothing
but praise for every single one of them. I gave debuts to four
players today and not one of them looked out of place.
"We went there with a threadbare side
and didn't do ourselves justice despite the way we played. It
will be a different story when they come here and we have a fully
fit squad."
Kay gave debuts to Lee Brayshaw at full-back
with Nick McNee and Louis Wilson on the wings. Shane Butcher also
came into the reckoning and came off the bench to play his part.
Things didn't start well for Isberg as they
lost the ball from the kick off for Graham Lupton to go in for
a try. Paul Evans added the conversion and the home side were
on their way.
Evans then added a penalty before Millom resorted
to bully boy tactics as Warren Lloyd was sin binned for punching.
But it didn't stop the next try which came from Anthony Dixon,
a 40 metre effort.
Millom led 22-0 at half-time as they scored
further tries from Evans just before the break.
In the second half Isberg restricted the league
leaders to just eight further points.
Lloyd went in for a try to make up for his
earlier misdemeanour in the first half.
But again Millom's discipline let them down
when they had Tom Sibley sent off five minutes from time. |
