MILLOM went back to the top of the league
after resounding victory over Warrington-based Crosfields.
The visitors took control from the first minute
when a good break by centre Brad Crellin was backed up by scrum-half
Nathan Mossop, who romped over in the corner.
A Graham Lupton penalty was followed by a
try by the same player, backing up a break by brother Paul.
The Maroons continued to play some exciting
rugby and Tom Sibley was unlucky to have a try disallowed.
Minutes later stand-off Graham Lupton went
in for his second try and added the extras for an 18-point lead.
A further Lupton penalty was quickly followed
by a home try when a dropped ball was picked up by Richard Hough,
who went 40 metres to score too wide out to convert.
Two minutes into the second half Crellin scored
after a mistake by the home side and again Lupton added the extras.
Millom were in top gear and playing some brilliant
rugby, which led to tries by Paul Lupton and Warren Lloyd.
The home side were trying to get back into
the game, but an interception by Midge Dixon saw him go 80 metres
to put Millom 42-4 front.
Crosfields pulled four points back with a
try from Phil Bannon.
Going into the last quarter, Millom continued
to throw the ball about and, after a break by Paul Carter, the
Lupton brothers set full-back Steve Dawson up for a brilliantly
worked try.
It was bettered minutes later when at least
six players handled before Lloyd went clear of the defence to
bring the half century up. Graham Lupton converted both tries
to give him a personal tally of 26 points.
Tom Sibley was man-of-the-match for the fourth
time in six games. |
