MILLOM went back to the top of the league after resounding victory over Warrington-based Crosfields.

The visitors took control from the first minute when a good break by centre Brad Crellin was backed up by scrum-half Nathan Mossop, who romped over in the corner.

A Graham Lupton penalty was followed by a try by the same player, backing up a break by brother Paul.

The Maroons continued to play some exciting rugby and Tom Sibley was unlucky to have a try disallowed.

Minutes later stand-off Graham Lupton went in for his second try and added the extras for an 18-point lead.

A further Lupton penalty was quickly followed by a home try when a dropped ball was picked up by Richard Hough, who went 40 metres to score too wide out to convert.

Two minutes into the second half Crellin scored after a mistake by the home side and again Lupton added the extras.

Millom were in top gear and playing some brilliant rugby, which led to tries by Paul Lupton and Warren Lloyd.

The home side were trying to get back into the game, but an interception by Midge Dixon saw him go 80 metres to put Millom 42-4 front.

Crosfields pulled four points back with a try from Phil Bannon.

Going into the last quarter, Millom continued to throw the ball about and, after a break by Paul Carter, the Lupton brothers set full-back Steve Dawson up for a brilliantly worked try.

It was bettered minutes later when at least six players handled before Lloyd went clear of the defence to bring the half century up. Graham Lupton converted both tries to give him a personal tally of 26 points.

Tom Sibley was man-of-the-match for the fourth time in six games.

League Express:

Crosfields season is already starting to look a tough one, after this crushing home defeat pushed them to next to bottom of the table.

In contrast, undefeated Millom leapfrogged to the top of the table on scoring aggregate, and are looking a top bet for promotion.

The visitors looked like they were the home side as they quickly registered their first try through scrum-half Nathan Mossop after just two minutes and notched others by half time from Centre Bradd Crellin and stand-off Graham Lupton, who also added four goals for a 20-4 interval lead. Crosfields only joy had been a Richard Hough try.

But hopes of a second half revival were dispelled as Millom raced in for tries through Graham Lupton, loose forward Paul Lupton, winger Warren Lloyd, and Anthony Dixon before Phil Bannon had registered a second try for Crosfields. But with fullback Steve Dawson and Lloyd again, completing the nine-try tally and Graham Lupton finishing with nine goals, it was Millom smiling and Crosfields in the gloom.

League Weekly:

The Maroons are back on top of the table, above Normanton on points difference, after mounting a comfortable win that condemns the Soap to the bottom two.

Millom were in control from the start, notching three goals by stand off Graham Lupton and touch downs for scrum half Nathan Mossop and Centre Bradd Crellin before Crosfields lost prop Craig Lucas to the sinbin midway through the first half.

The Cumbrians went on to pass the half century mark with two tries by winger Warren Lloyd, with second row Tom Sibley, loose forward Paul Lupton, centre Anthony Dixon and Fullback Steve Dawson also crossing the whitewash.

Lupton totalled nine goals, while Richard Hough and Phil Bannon crossed for the home side.
