MILLOM went behind as early as the fifth minute
against a team that has already won the Lancashire Cup and remain
unbeaten in the North West Counties Premier Division.
Second-row Anthony Braide scored the first try, followed by one
from fullback Ryan Fieldhouse on nine minutes.
Braide scored his second on 17 minutes which looked blatantly
forward but it put Millom 16 points in arrears.
For the rest of the half Millom played a mainly defensive part,
with Tom Sibley, Paul Lupton and Brad Crellin leading the way.
The score remained the same until the 11th minute of the second
half when the scrum-half Braide hoofed over a field goal 17-0.
The maroons continued to defend strongly but on 24 minutes good
play led to stand-off John Brandish going over for a converted
try, 23-0.
The well-drilled home team were getting in among the Millom line,
not allowing them to play their normal game and a dropped pass
allowed fullback Fieldhouse to go in for a final converted try.
Some consolation for Millom came when secretary for the Warrington
club said that although being undefeated all season this was their
best ever victory. Loose forward Paul Lupton was chosen as Millom’s
man-of-the-match.
